Statement of Faith
We, the members of the First Baptist Church of Billings, affirm our faith in the living God, His Word, and His work in and through the Church. Our beliefs are rooted in the Holy Bible, which we hold as the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. We affirm the Christian faith, which centers on the gospel of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit for the glory of God.
1. God
We believe in one eternal, sovereign God who exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is the Creator, Sustainer, and Ruler of all things. God is holy, just, and loving, and we are called to worship and serve Him with reverence and awe.
2. Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully man. Conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, He lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day. Jesus is the only Savior and mediator between God and humanity. He will return in glory to judge the living and the dead.
3. The Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. He indwells believers, empowering and equipping us for Christian living and service. The Holy Spirit guides us and transforms us into the image of Christ.
4. The Bible
We believe that the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is the divinely inspired Word of God. It is inerrant and serves as the supreme authority for faith and practice. We are called to study, preach, and live according to its teachings.
5. Salvation
We believe that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. Human beings are sinners by nature and choice, separated from God and unable to save themselves. Through repentance and faith in Jesus, we are forgiven, justified, and born again into eternal life with God.
6. The Church
We believe that the Church is the body of Christ, made up of all believers united by faith in Him. We gather for worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry, and missions. Baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper are ordinances we observe as acts of obedience and symbols of our faith.
7. Christian Living
We believe that believers are called to live holy lives, separate from sin and dedicated to God. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we are to love one another, forgive as Christ forgave us, and share the gospel with the world, reflecting Christ’s character in all that we do.
8. The Last Things
We believe that Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly to fulfill God’s eternal plan. There will be a bodily resurrection of the dead, and all people will stand before Christ in judgment. The righteous will enter eternal life in heaven, and the unrighteous will face eternal separation from God in hell.
